PowerLogic PM5000 integration with EpiSensor Edge

The PM5000 family is compatible with EpiSensor through its documented open interfaces. The exact route depends on the meter model: RS-485 variants use Modbus RTU, Ethernet variants use Modbus TCP, and selected Ethernet models also expose BACnet/IP.

Choose the path that matches the device

Choose the exact PM5000 model and firmware first. Its physical port, unit address, serial settings and register-list revision determine the configuration; the family name alone is not a register map.

For a PM5000 model with a serial Modbus port

Modbus RTU over RS-485

Use a ZMB-31 when the meter is remote from the Gateway and a wireless bridge avoids a long new data-cable run. Configure the Edge point names, data formats and scaling from the Schneider register map reviewed for the project.

For a PM5000 model with an Ethernet port

Edge connects as the Modbus client to the meter's IP address and unit identifier. Keep the meter network segmented and permit only the required management path.

Edge discovers and reads BACnet/IP objects as a client. Edge is not a BACnet server and does not provide BACnet MS/TP, so confirm the required direction before choosing this route.

What Edge can exchange

The exact list depends on the model and its published data map. Start with the monitoring and control points the project will actually use.

Site acceptance

Commission it once, then preserve the map

A successful network connection is the start of the check, not the end.

  1. Record the complete PM5000 catalogue number and firmware version.
  2. Use the Schneider Electric register list that matches the model family and firmware.
  3. Confirm whether register references are shown as 4xxxx notation, one-based offsets or zero-based protocol addresses before entering them in Edge.
  4. For RS-485, record baud rate, parity, stop bits and slave address; check polarity, common reference, bias and termination on the complete bus.
  5. For Ethernet, assign and record the meter IP address and unit identifier, then limit network access to the required peers.
  6. Map one known value first and compare it with the meter display before importing the remaining points.
  7. Verify signed values, byte and word order, scaling, units and energy direction under a known operating condition.
  8. Agree polling intervals and alarm thresholds that the meter, network and downstream system can sustain.
  9. Export a reviewed Edge device template only after the point list has passed the site acceptance check.

Official datasheets, installation material, firmware packages and model-family register maps are publicly available, but the correct revision still has to be selected.

Treat Modbus and BACnet as site-network protocols. Segment the meter network, restrict management access and do not expose field devices directly to the public internet.

RS-485 supports multi-drop buses and Ethernet supports routed site architectures, but address planning, polling load and point count must be engineered.
