Schneider Electric PowerLogic PM8240
Power quality meter
METSEPM8240 is the standard PowerLogic PM8000 panel meter with an integrated display, 512 MB memory and 256 samples per cycle. Schneider publishes a PM8000 Modbus workbook with fixed read-only measurement registers and documents high-word-first 32-bit values. A bounded read-only Edge path is available after matching the installed firmware, map, CT and VT configuration and the client address convention.

Compatibility
Documented read-only Modbus path
Schneider publishes PM8000 Modbus TCP/RTU support, a model-family register workbook and the transmitted byte and word order. The retained workbook identifies firmware 002.002.001 and marks core electrical measurements read only.
Exact METSEPM8240 standard panel-mount meter. Confirm installed firmware, feature set, CT and VT ratios, wiring, enabled communications and a matching Schneider register workbook. The worked check uses the retained firmware 002.002.001 map. No configuration, reset, I/O, alarm or external-control write is approved.

Specifications
The current product page identifies METSEPM8240 as the standard PM8000 panel meter with an integrated display, 512 MB memory and 256 samples per cycle. It publishes 0.1% current and voltage accuracy and class 0.2S active-energy accuracy, subject to the complete installed measurement chain.1
- Exact product
- METSEPM8240, standard PM8000, integrated display, 512 MB, 256 samples per cycle1
- Published communications
- Two-wire Modbus RTU up to 115 kbaud and Ethernet Modbus TCP/IP; ION, DNP3 and IEC 61850 are separate interfaces1
- Workbook firmware
- 002.002.001 in the retained PM8000 Modbus workbook3
- Read examples
- Current average register 3010, line-to-line voltage average 3026, total active power 3060 and frequency 3110; each is a two-register read-only Float323
- 32-bit ordering
- Most-significant byte first within each word and most-significant word first across two-word values5
- Measurement accuracy
- Current and voltage ±0.1%; active-energy class 0.2S under the published standards; system accuracy still depends on CTs, VTs, wiring and configuration1
Interface
Documented measurements and integration boundaries for PowerLogic PM8240.
- Meter name, serial number and firmware identity before measurement polling.
- Average current, line-to-line voltage, total active and reactive power and frequency from fixed read-only Float32 registers.
- Delivered and received energy, demand, harmonics and power-quality data only after selecting the exact workbook row, width, unit and representation.
- Data quality, invalid sentinels and timestamp sources must remain explicit; configuration, resets, I/O and external controls are outside this read-only guide.
Assessment
Exact METSEPM8240 with a firmware-matched Schneider PM8000 register workbook; read-only measurement path only.
- InteroperabilityWell supported
- Schneider publishes Modbus TCP/RTU interfaces, fixed register rows, function support and byte and word order.135
- AccuracySupported with conditions
- The product publishes 0.1% current and voltage accuracy and class 0.2S active energy; installed CTs, VTs, wiring and configuration remain part of system accuracy.1
- SecuritySupported with conditions
- The current product data describes configurable user accounts and communication-port controls. Network segmentation, credentials and enabled services still require site commissioning.1
- ReliabilityNot yet assessed
- The local display supports comparison with polled measurements. Exact invalid-value behavior, client retry, buffering and gap handling still require firmware-specific evidence and commissioning.15
- RuggednessNot yet assessed
- A complete installed environmental and enclosure limit was not established in this bounded evidence set.1
Setup
Read total active power without changing the meter
The retained firmware 002.002.001 workbook defines total active power at Modbus register 3060 as two read-only FLOAT32 registers in watts.
- Function and address
- Use function 03 to read holding register 3060 as listed in the workbook, translated through the client’s documented one-based or zero-based address convention. Read two consecutive registers. The retained evidence does not establish a numeric PDU-offset conversion.
- Decode and unit
- Decode one IEEE-754 Float32 with the most-significant word first and report W. Do not divide by 1,000 unless the destination explicitly requires kW.
- Invalid data
- Reject IEEE-754 NaN, infinity, stale or implausible values. The retained sources do not define the meter’s exact Float32 invalid sentinel; obtain that behavior for the installed firmware and test it during commissioning.
- Acceptance
- Compare a fresh result with the simultaneous total active-power value on the meter and confirm sign against a known import or export condition.
Acceptance: The map and representation are documented. The address translation, installed mapping, ratios, sign and physical reading still require local commissioning; this is not a settlement or physical Edge qualification.
-
Identify the exact meter
Record METSEPM8240, serial number, installed firmware, feature set and enabled option modules. Keep PM800, PM8000 and ION7400 maps separate.
-
Record the measurement chain
Confirm system type, phase wiring, CT and VT ratios, nominal frequency and polarity with the authorised installer before interpreting any value.
-
Match the register workbook
Use a Schneider workbook that explicitly covers the installed firmware. Confirm that the fixed map is enabled and record any remapped data sources or additional Modbus Slave mappings. The retained workbook says custom Modbus Slave addresses cannot conflict with the generic-data section.
-
Configure one read-only path
Use either the commissioned Ethernet server or the two-wire serial server. Record endpoint or unit address, register convention, timeout and poll rate, and keep every write function disabled.
-
Prove values locally
Read identity first, then compare a complete Float32 measurement with the simultaneous meter display. Reject non-finite, stale or implausible values. Obtain the installed firmware’s invalid-value behavior before accepting a point for operational use.
Common questions
- Does PM8240 support Modbus TCP and RTU?
- Yes. Schneider's current product data names Ethernet Modbus TCP/IP and two-wire Modbus RTU. The project still needs the installed network or serial settings and the matching register workbook.1
- Can the PM8000 register map be customised?
- Yes. Schneider documents a fixed map built from Data Mapping modules and additional Modbus Slave mappings that can expose extra or duplicate values. The workbook says Modbus Slave addresses cannot conflict with the generic-data section, while they can override certain other sections. Confirm the actual data mapping and fixed-map enable state during commissioning.34
- Can Edge write PM8240 configuration from this guide?
- No. The selected measurement rows are read only and this guide approves no reset, I/O, alarm, custom-map or external-control write.35
- Is the PM8240 a settlement meter?
- This guide covers operational monitoring. Meter accuracy markings do not by themselves establish the complete legal-metrology installation, sealed configuration, market approval or settlement process for a particular jurisdiction.1
