IoT Infrastructure, Simplified

Deploying IoT infrastructure in commercial and industrial environments can be complex, expensive and slow.

To build energy solutions based on real-world data fast, you need the quality of a traditional system, with the ease-of-use of a consumer IoT product.

Enterprise-class features as standard

They’re suitable for use in the most secure, regulated and harsh commercial and industrial environments.

This means easy installation and flexibility without the need for specialised training or documentation – while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, reliability, scalability, ruggedness and security.

Easy to Use

Our systems are designed from the ground up to be easy to install and use. Plug in our Gateway, go to a website from your laptop, phone or tablet, and start building.

Fully Secure

The data produced by our systems is often highly sensitive, and can directly relate to production levels, environmental conditions or occupancy. Our systems are fully secure from sensor to server.

Reliable

Data loss should never be acceptable. If there is a communications or power failure, our devices will log years of time-stamped data until the connection is restored.

Scalable

Deploy a small system with a single sensor or a city-wide communications infrastructure. Our systems will scale gracefully, and expand as your monitoring requirements do.

Standards Based

We export data in open formats such as CSV, XML and JSON. This is essential if you need to integrate with enterprise systems, or simply decide to change software vendor.

Long Battery Life

We have spent years in the lab perfecting the low-power electronics techniques used in our battery-powered sensors. Up to 10-year battery life means little or no maintenance costs.

Accurate

When reducing energy usage, sometimes by single figure % points, it’s essential that the data you collect is accurate. Our electricity meters are accurate to Class 1 (+/- 1%).

Rugged

Our product enclosures are waterproof as standard. Install indoors, outdoors, in clean, dirty or harsh environments – that’s one less design constraint to think about.

Developer Friendly

We produce accurate, real-time data in open formats – our systems are documented and designed to be integrated with. Start building exciting new applications today.

Data graph EpiSensor Core
Intuitive Web Interface

Join new sensors, change network settings, re-name devices, configure data export, set up a 3G modem – all aspects of our system can be configured remotely via an easy to use web interface.

Designed for Mobile

When adding a new device, you can change settings and confirm signal strength from any mobile device as you walk around a site – iPhone, iPad and Android devices are supported natively.

Layout View

All EpiSensor mains-powered nodes will route data. Build strong and reliable mesh networks using the Layout View to confirm that each device has multiple redundant communications paths.

Allow Join

Adding new devices is easy. Start small and expand your monitoring system over time, no complex commissioning or system design required. Simply enable ‘Allow Join’ on the Gateway, and press a button on the new device.

Security from Sensor to Server

Ensuring the security and privacy of data produced by a monitoring system is essential, but can be challenging.

Traditional wireless sensor networks may not have adequate security measures in place, leaving sensitive data vulnerable to unauthorized access.

Our EpiSensor systems implement Zigbee™ wireless security to the highest standards, securing all data packets with AES 128-bit encryption. Our Gateways are password protected and use HTTPS or FTPS communications protocols to securely upload data to the server. If the server’s security certificates fail to validate, data will not be exported. Encryption keys for the network are stored within the radio transceiver of each wireless device, making it impossible to access even if a sensor or Gateway is stolen from a site.

Never miss a data point

EpiSensor’s best-in-class data quality is achieved through the use of four techniques:

  • Intelligent meshing
  • Cumulative value storage
  • Node-level logging
  • Gateway-level logging.

Intelligent meshing allows our wireless devices to automatically re-route data when changes in the environment cause a loss of connectivity. Cumulative value storage in non-volatile memory ensures that important data is not lost when power is disrupted. Node-level and Gateway-level logging allow for the storage and eventual upload of time-stamped data, even when network connections are lost. This ensures that valuable data is never lost and allows for consistent, accurate reporting.

Scale from a single node to a city-wide deployment

EpiSensor’s systems are designed to be scalable, allowing a single gateway to accommodate a large number of wireless nodes.

This allows for the collection of data from a wide range of sources. Each node can have multiple sensors, allowing for comprehensive data collection. For example, our three phase electricity meter has 36 individual sensors that monitor kWh, voltage, current power factor, and other important metrics.

In addition to scalable hardware, our systems also include range extenders that can increase wireless coverage by an average of 1000m2 (10,700ft2) in a typical commercial or industrial environment. If this coverage is not sufficient, multiple gateways can be used on a single site to continue expanding the wireless network. This allows for easy expansion and comprehensive data collection.

All data collected by our systems is reported back to a central server for storage and analysis. This allows for easy access to data, as well as the ability to generate reports and graphs. Overall, our systems provide best-in-class data quality and scalability.

Fully standards based

When investing in a monitoring infrastructure, it’s important to choose a system that is flexible and interoperable, allowing for easy integration with new software applications and existing legacy systems. This is especially important if you need to integrate with multiple software applications at the same time.

EpiSensor’s systems export data in open, industry-standard formats, allowing for easy manipulation and integration into a variety of software systems. We support many software systems as standard, using CSV, JSON, and XML data export formats. In addition, we can develop custom data drivers as needed. Our wireless sensor network is fully Zigbee™ Pro compliant and our wireless products are CE and FCC approved, ensuring high quality and reliability.

Batteries that last the lifetime of the product

EpiSensor’s low-power technology is incorporated into all of our battery-powered devices, allowing for long battery life and easy deployment.

Our temperature sensors, for example, can last for up to 10 years. This reduces maintenance requirements and makes our system easy to use – simply enable “allow join” mode on the Gateway, press a button on the wireless device, mount it in the desired location, and data will start flowing.

Our system is also designed for use in harsh environments, thanks to the use of Lithium batteries that operate at extreme temperatures. This makes our system suitable for deployment in chilled warehouses, food processing plants, and other challenging environments. Each device will report its battery level to the Gateway every 24 hours, and alerts can be configured to notify users when a battery needs to be replaced. Overall, our system provides long battery life and easy deployment, making it a versatile and reliable choice for monitoring and data collection.

Accuracy that you can trust

When it comes to sub-metering energy usage, accuracy is key. Inaccurate meters can lead to incorrect billing and unnecessary expenses.

That’s why it’s important to use meters that are at least as accurate as the utility meter, which determines your monthly charges.

EpiSensor’s electricity meters are individually calibrated to Class 1 accuracy (+/- 1%), ensuring that they are typically more accurate than your utility meter. This means you can confirm that your utility meter is reading accurately, avoiding potential overcharging. Our temperature sensors are also highly accurate (+/- 0.2C) and can be regularly calibrated to maintain this level of accuracy. Overall, our meters provide the accuracy you need for reliable energy usage monitoring and billing.
