Aqara RTCGQ11LM
Motion sensor
A small battery-powered Zigbee passive infrared motion sensor with a light level reading. It detects movement up to 7 m away across 170°, runs on one CR2450 coin cell and waits 60 seconds after each detection before it reports motion again.

Specifications
The RTCGQ11LM is Aqara’s original Motion Sensor. It detects people by passive infrared: a Fresnel lens focuses the heat of a moving person onto an infrared sensor. Aqara gives a maximum detection distance of 7 m and a maximum detection angle of 170°. The unit is 30 × 30 × 33 mm, runs on one CR2450 coin cell and comes with a stand that rotates through 360° so the lens can be aimed after mounting.13

Where it is used
Room use next to HVAC and lighting energy, to find plant running for empty meeting rooms, toilets and stores.
HVAC energy monitoring for commercial buildingsOccupancy beside temperature and humidity in offices and classrooms, to read comfort data against when rooms are in use.
Indoor environmental monitoringLight-level and movement checks in corridors and stairwells, where it sits on a stand without wiring.

Motion arrives as an event only. Zigbee2MQTT clears occupancy after 90 seconds by default and advises a timeout of no less than 60 seconds, because the sensor ignores motion for 60 seconds after each detection.4
Battery percentage is derived from the cell voltage: the Zigbee definition treats 2.85 V as empty and 3.0 V as full.5
Aqara devices of this generation can drop off a network when the signal is weak, the battery is low, or they are parented to some third-party Zigbee routers. The documented fix is to reset and re-pair the sensor near the Gateway.4
Setup
-
Open pairing in Edge
In Edge, open pairing on the Gateway’s Zigbee network and hold the sensor close to the Gateway.
-
Hold the reset button
Press and hold the reset button for about 5 seconds until the blue LED blinks, then release it. If it does not join, try a single short press.4
-
Confirm the join
Check that Edge identifies it as Aqara RTCGQ11LM. A single press of the reset button at the mounting position checks that it can still reach the network from there.1
-
Mount and aim it
Mount it between 1.2 and 2.1 m, on the stand or the adhesive pad, with the lens facing the area to cover and away from metal surfaces.1
-
Walk test
Walk across the area and confirm that Edge records motion. Wait at least 60 seconds before the next test, because the sensor ignores motion for that long after each detection.4
Common questions
- Does the RTCGQ11LM need an Aqara hub to work with Edge?
- No. Aqara’s own app needs an Aqara hub, but the sensor is a Zigbee device and joins a Zigbee coordinator directly. It pairs with the Zigbee radio on an EpiSensor Gateway and Edge reads it locally.14
- Why does it not report motion straight after the last detection?
- After each detection the sensor ignores movement for 60 seconds. Movement inside that minute is not reported; the next report comes from movement after it. Set any no-motion timeout to 60 seconds or more.4
- How far does it detect?
- Up to 7 m across a 170° field of view, when mounted between 1.2 and 2.1 m with the lens facing the area.1
- Does it measure light level?
- Yes. Its Zigbee definition reports illuminance in lux. Aqara publishes no range or accuracy for it, so use it to tell light from dark rather than to measure lighting levels.24
- Can it be used outdoors?
- No. Aqara states it is for indoor use only, rated for -10 to 45 °C and 0 to 95 % RH without condensation.1
