Specifications

Model 9290019758 is the Hue outdoor motion sensor, which Signify first CE-marked in 2018. It is the outdoor counterpart of the indoor Hue motion sensor, 9290012607, and reports itself on the network as SML002. Over Zigbee it gives motion, light level in lux and temperature, plus its battery level.^1, 3, 4

Where it is used

• A simple outdoor light and temperature reference beside indoor readings, from a sensor that needs no cable.

The sensor has two endpoints. Occupancy, temperature, light level and battery come from endpoint 2, which is also where the clear delay has to be written.^3, 4

Sensitivity and the LED setting are Signify manufacturer-specific attributes: motion sensitivity is 0x0030 on the occupancy-sensing cluster and LED indication is 0x0033 on the basic cluster.⁵

Any clear delay from 0 to 10 gives the 10-second minimum. Longer values are in seconds.³

Setup

1. Open pairing in Edge

   In Edge, open pairing on the Gateway’s Zigbee network. The Gateway accepts new devices while pairing is open.

2. Put it in pairing mode

   Press and hold the setup button for about 5 seconds until the setup light blinks red. Then press and hold it again until the light blinks orange.³

3. Confirm the join

   The light blinks green when the sensor has joined. Check that Edge identifies it as Philips 9290019758.³

4. Check the signal at the wall

   Before fixing it outside, hold it where it will be mounted and walk past it. A long red flash on motion means it cannot reach the network through the wall: add a mains-powered Zigbee router inside, near that wall.²

5. Set the delay and sensitivity

   Set the clear delay you want, from 10 seconds up, and lower the sensitivity if passing traffic or moving plants trigger it.³

Common questions

Does it need a Hue bridge to work with Edge?

No. It is a Zigbee device that joins a Zigbee coordinator directly, so it pairs with the Zigbee radio on an EpiSensor Gateway without a Hue bridge.³

What batteries does it use, and how do I know they are low?

Two AAA batteries. A short orange flash on motion means they are low and a short red flash means they are almost empty. Philips shows these only on the first motion after at least 15 seconds with none. Edge also reports the battery level.²

How does it differ from the indoor Hue motion sensor, 9290012607?

It is the outdoor version, CE-marked in 2018, and its declaration adds the EN 18031 radio security standards. Its Zigbee definition has the same readings and settings as the indoor sensor.^1, 4

Can I turn off the LED?

Yes. The green blink on each detection is a writable setting, so it can be switched off.³

How do I test its coverage?

Watch the LED while someone walks the area. Philips describes it turning on when the sensor detects movement and off after five seconds with none, which shows where it sees and where it does not.²
