Specifications

PARASOLL is a two-part magnetic contact for doors, windows and cabinets. The sensor and its magnetic strip have to be within 5 mm of each other when closed. Both ends carry a magnet, so the strip can sit either way round, and the two parts can be mounted at right angles, facing each other or side by side, with screws or the double-sided tape supplied.^1, 2

Where it is used

Readings and settings, with units and ranges where IKEA publishes them. R readable, W writable only.³

Contact changes arrive as alarm changes from the sensor. Battery level in % and battery voltage in mV are reported and can also be read on request.³

Its Zigbee definition configures zone status reporting when the sensor pairs, because without it the reported state can stick after a door opens and closes quickly.⁴

The sensor accepts firmware updates over the Zigbee network.³

Setup

1. Fit the battery

   Open the back of the sensor and insert one AAA cell, preferably IKEA's LADDA rechargeable.¹

2. Open pairing in Edge

   In Edge, open pairing on the Gateway’s Zigbee network. The Gateway accepts new devices while pairing is open.

3. Reset it into pairing mode

   Press the pairing button four times within 5 seconds. The sensor factory-resets, clearing any lights it was paired with, and then looks for a network to join.³

4. Confirm the join

   Check that Edge identifies it as IKEA E2013.

5. Mount it

   Fix the sensor and strip no more than 5 mm apart when closed, away from magnetic metal and direct sunlight.¹

6. Check one reading

   Open the door: the LED blinks twice. Close it: the LED blinks once. Confirm that the contact state follows in Edge.¹

Common questions

Does PARASOLL need an IKEA hub to work with Edge?

No. IKEA's hub is only needed for the IKEA Home smart app. The sensor is a Zigbee device and joins the Zigbee radio on an EpiSensor Gateway, where Edge reads it locally.^1, 3

Can I use an ordinary alkaline AAA battery?

IKEA specifies one 1.2 V AAA/HR03 cell, the rechargeable NiMH type, and recommends its LADDA 750. Fit that rather than an alkaline cell.¹

Is PARASOLL reliable on a Zigbee network?

Not in every network. Zigbee2MQTT reports that some PARASOLL sensors regularly go unavailable or drain their battery, depending on the other routers in the network. Trial a few on your site before a large roll-out.³

How do I factory reset it?

Quick-press the pairing button four times within 5 seconds. The LED blinks and then stays lit when the reset is complete.¹

Can it be mounted outdoors?

IKEA lists it for indoor use, with an IP44 rating and a range of 0 to 45 °C. Keep it out of direct sunlight.¹
