BITUO TECHNIK SPM02V3

Three-phase energy meter

A compact three-phase energy meter for 3P+N boards, up to 63 A per phase, that fits on the protective device or hangs on the cables instead of occupying DIN rail space. It reports import and export energy over Zigbee.

Specifications

The SPM02 is a three-phase energy meter made by Shanghai Bituo Electric under the BITUO TECHNIK name. It measures voltage, current, power and energy on each phase of a 3P+N system. Each phase conductor passes through its own hole in the housing, up to 16 mm² cable, and three voltage leads plus a neutral connect to the supply. It needs no space on the DIN rail: one variant plugs into the terminals of the circuit breaker, the other hangs on the cables.1

Energy flowing in the direction of the arrow on the housing counts as forward (consumed) energy; energy flowing against it counts as produced energy, per phase and in total.14

Voltage is reported in steps of 0.1 V, current in 0.001 A, energy in 0.01 kWh and frequency in 0.01 Hz. Power factor is a percentage.4

Setup

  1. Isolate and wire the voltage leads

With the supply off, connect brown (or red) to line X, black (or green) to line Y, grey (or yellow) to line Z and blue to neutral. On the breaker-mounted variants the terminal plates go into the breaker's terminals. Bituo says only qualified electricians should install it.1

  2. Pass each phase through its own hole

Pass line X through hole X, Y through Y and Z through Z, so each current matches its voltage. Keep the arrow in the direction of normal flow, and never pass a line and the neutral through the same hole.1

  3. Put it into pairing mode

Open pairing on the Gateway's Zigbee network in Edge, then press the reset button for 3 to 5 seconds. The LED flashes twice a second while the meter is in pairing mode.1

  4. Check each phase

Compare each phase voltage and current with a clamp meter. If a consumption circuit shows produced energy on one phase, that conductor passes through its hole the wrong way.

Common questions

Does the SPM02 need a Tuya hub?
No. Bituo states that its Tuya Zigbee variants can be identified by universal Zigbee coordinators, so it joins the Zigbee radio on an EpiSensor Gateway directly.1
How accurate is it?
Check the complete ordering code and housing, rather than the SPM02V3 Zigbee name. Bituo identifies its Class 1 hardware with a -CL1 suffix and a Cl.1 side marking. The manual states Class 1 for current, active power and forward energy, but we have not verified that every unit matching this Zigbee definition has that rating.15
Can it measure solar export?
Yes. It measures energy in both directions. Energy flowing with the arrow counts as consumed and energy flowing against it as produced, on each phase and in total.14
Where can it not be installed?
It is not suitable for IT systems. Bituo warns that it can be damaged downstream of a contactor, frequency converter or motor starter; the upstream (U) variants go on the supply side of those devices.1
