Schneider Electric PowerLogic PM3255

Power and energy meter

METSEPM3255 is a three-phase panel meter for external current transformers. Its RS-485 port and local display make a bounded Modbus read possible, provided the installed wiring, CT ratio and serial settings are recorded. The PM3255 also has two digital inputs, two digital outputs and logging functions; those are separate from the simple measurement read described here.

Compatibility

Documented read-only Modbus path

Schneider documents a local FC03 Modbus read of the PM3255 voltage table through its RS-485 port.

Exact METSEPM3255, not the similarly named PM3250 or PM5000 series. Use the installed PM3200 firmware and its matching DOCA0006EN-09 map. The CT ratio, power-system wiring and RS-485 settings must be confirmed locally. The online map establishes a read-only register example but no physical Edge test or ready-to-import template.

Use the meter’s serial Modbus port, not an assumed Ethernet endpoint. Confirm the installed address, speed and framing on its display. The customer-platform output is optional; Edge remains the local system of record.

Interface

Documented measurements and integration boundaries for PowerLogic PM3255.

  • Phase currents and phase-to-neutral and line voltages as Float32 readings.
  • Total active power in kW at register 3060.
  • Import and export energy as four-register Int64 Wh counters, separate from the Float32 Wh copies.
  • Digital I/O and log records require their own documented functions and configuration.

InteroperabilityWell supported
Schneider identifies RS-485 Modbus RTU, FC03 reads and an exact register/address table.124
AccuracySupported with conditions
Class 0.5S is stated for METSEPM3255; system accuracy still depends on matching CTs and correct wiring.1
SecurityNot yet assessed
The retained product and Modbus pages do not establish authenticated or encrypted serial transport.4
ReliabilitySupported with conditions
The local display supports comparison with fresh reads, while register data and logs must be kept distinct.25
RuggednessNot yet assessed
A complete installed environmental and enclosure limit has not been established from these captures.1
ScalabilitySupported with conditions
Addressed RS-485 permits a designed serial bus; capacity depends on the real wiring and poll schedule.14
LifecycleNot yet assessed
The current product page does not establish a firmware support term or map applicability to every installed revision.12

Setup

Read L1-N voltage without changing the meter

The PM3200 table gives the PM3255 L1-N voltage at hexadecimal address 0x0BD3, decimal register 3028, as a two-register Float32 in V.

Function and PDU
FC03, 03 0B D3 00 02; the unit address and RTU CRC surround the PDU.
Address convention
Use 0x0BD3 from the Address column. Do not send decimal 3028 as the PDU address.
Decode and unit
Read all four response data bytes as one IEEE-754 Float32 in V. Establish the returned word order against the local display; no universal word order is assumed here.
Acceptance
Compare a fresh result with the simultaneous L1-N display on a wiring system that includes neutral.

Acceptance: The manual documents the request and data type. The actual byte order and measurement still need an on-site comparison; this is not a physical Edge qualification.

  1. Read the complete METSEPM3255 label and installed firmware, then confirm the CT secondary, primary ratio and measurement wiring with the authorised installer.

  2. On the local display, record the Modbus unit address, baud rate, parity and stop bits.

Match the Edge serial client and use only FC03 reads for this check.

  3. Read two registers from PDU address 0x0BD3 for L1-N voltage.

Register 3028 is the manual’s decimal reference, one above the address sent on the bus.

  4. Decode the complete Float32 value with the verified word order, compare it with the simultaneous display and reject stale or implausible values before expanding the point list.

  5. Treat Int64 energy and log file records as different representations.

Preserve Wh units and full counter width; do not turn I/O or command-register descriptions into monitoring writes.

Common questions

Is register 3028 the wire address?
No. The manual says its hexadecimal Address column is sent in the frame. L1-N voltage is register 3028 but PDU address 0x0BD3, decimal 3027.23
Can the energy counters be read as two-register floats?
The map has a four-register Int64 Wh counter and separate two-register Float32 copies. Their widths and encodings are different, so choose one explicitly.5
Does the PM3255 provide Ethernet?
The exact METSEPM3255 product page names RS-485 Modbus. This guide uses that local serial path.1
