Socomec: Electrical measurement and distribution monitoring

Socomec makes electrical measurement systems, including DIRIS panel meters, Digiware multi-circuit monitoring and embedded WEBVIEW software.

Hardware, sensors, communications and software options depend on the chosen system configuration.

Overview

Socomec's measurement range covers both a single electrical measurement point and a distributed set of circuits. A DIRIS A-40 puts measurement into a panel-mounted instrument. DIRIS Digiware distributes the measurement function across modules and sensors, with communications and display components completing the system.

The distinction is useful when deciding how to monitor a switchboard. One incoming supply and many outgoing feeders create different equipment and wiring requirements. Selecting the architecture first makes it easier to identify the required sensors, communications and display, rather than treating every measurement device as an interchangeable standalone meter. The circuit layout and intended data destination remain part of that selection.

Offering

The DIRIS A-40 is a multifunction measurement unit used with the manufacturer's current sensors. The precise ordering reference determines the communications. For example, 48250501 combines Ethernet and RS-485 interfaces with input and output connections; that specification should remain attached to the reference rather than being applied to every A-40.

Digiware provides a different route for multi-circuit measurement. Its modular arrangement allows a system to be assembled around the circuits being monitored. This is not simply a smaller panel meter: measurement modules, sensors and the chosen communications equipment work together. A bill of materials therefore needs to describe the whole measurement path, including the parts that collect and expose the readings.

Technology

Socomec's WEBVIEW is embedded monitoring software available on selected devices. It gives a browser-based route to electrical measurements without making every instrument a general-purpose server. The hardware hosting the software and the connected measurement system determine what data is available.

The Digiware D-70 is an example of a display and communications component with Ethernet, RS-485 and embedded WEBVIEW. This separates local measurement from the route used to inspect or collect it. In an integration specification, the meter or module reference, network interface and data access method should all be named. A browser view of readings and a documented Modbus connection are related capabilities, but they are not the same interface.

Markets

The Digiware documentation addresses AC and DC multi-circuit power monitoring. That breadth is useful where a facility contains several kinds of electrical distribution, but it does not mean one sensor or module is suitable for every circuit. AC and DC measurement arrangements need the appropriate components.

For a smaller monitoring scope, a DIRIS A-40 can provide an identifiable measurement point at a board or supply. For a wider scope, the modular architecture offers another way to organise the measurement equipment. The practical comparison is therefore about how many circuits, which electrical quantities and where the readings must go, before considering the presentation software or a particular dashboard layout.

Company

Socomec marked its centenary in 2022, dating its origins to 1922 in its company history. Its headquarters announcement identifies Benfeld, France, as the group's headquarters. This long electrical-equipment history provides context for the measurement products, without establishing the capabilities of any particular model.

For engineering selection, the strongest evidence remains the individual product reference and its documentation. The 48250501 page illustrates why: it describes a specific communication arrangement within the wider A-40 family. Keeping that reference in procurement records and system documentation helps preserve the intended interface when equipment is replaced, and avoids confusing family-level descriptions with the functions of the installed unit.
