Method and assumptions

Formula

fuel rate = litres ÷ hours; litres/kWh = litres ÷ generated kWh; average load = kWh ÷ hours ÷ rated kW

Use meter totals covering the same start and stop boundary; zero electrical output has no finite litres-per-kWh result.

Limits of this result

  • Fuel density, lower heating value, temperature, blend and meter accuracy are not normalised by this arithmetic.
  • Transient loading, starts, idle periods and auxiliary loads can materially change a short-run ratio.
  • Do not use this result as an emissions factor, maintenance limit or manufacturer performance guarantee.
