Overview

ComAp (the name is short for Computer Application) was started in Prague in 1991 by three friends. The Czech commercial register dates the company to 10 April 1991, when it was entered as COMAP, spol. s r.o., and a company profile on oEnergetice.cz describes it as a project begun by students of the Czech Technical University. Its first contract was for voice annunciators on the Prague Metro. The move into power control came with the GX gen-set controller in 1993, followed by the MX engine controller in 1994 and the PX combined heat and power system in 1995, according to the company's own history.

The product that set the direction was InteliGen, launched in 2000 as an all-in-one generator controller, with InteliLite and InteliSys following in 2002. In the 2010s ComAp made its controllers modular with the BaseBox format and introduced WebSupervisor in 2010 for remote monitoring of its own and third-party devices. Since 2022 the range has moved further into switchgear and site-level energy control: InteliGen 1000 for paralleling in critical sites, the InteliNeo microgrid controllers announced in 2023 and the InteliNeo 530 BESS for battery storage in 2024.

ComAp's position rests on breadth within one family. Single gen-sets, paralleled sets, mains and tie breakers, PV and battery assets, engines and marine power systems are configured with the same tool, InteliConfig, and monitored through the same cloud service. Its newest paralleling and mains controllers also carry third-party cybersecurity certificates, which the Croatian Register of Shipping lists in its type approval of the InteliGen, InteliSys and InteliMains families. The company remains independent and, by its own account on the about page, owned by the founders' families.

Offering

Single gen-set controllers

The InteliNano range covers small standby sets: the InteliNano AMF 5 handles automatic mains failure and manual or remote start, supports Stage V and Tier 4 Final engine ECUs and has a plug-in slot for remote monitoring. The InteliLite 4 range (AMF 9, AMF 20, AMF 25 and MRS 16) is the mid-range single-set family. The InteliLite 4 AMF 25 datasheet lists four applications in one hardware (AMF standby, MRS prime power, hybrid and engine-only), two slots for plug-in modules, up to five CAN extension modules, a 350-record history log and an optional low-temperature version rated to -40 °C.

Paralleling and switchgear controllers

InteliGen4 200 is the current controller for common paralleling of single or multiple sets, grid-tied or islanded. InteliGen 500 G2 adds a 5-inch colour display and replaces the InteliGen 500, NT GC and NTC GC. InteliGen 1000 is the top of the range for switchgear and critical sites such as datacentres and hospitals: it cooperates with up to 64 further gen-set, mains or tie controllers and supports hot-swap and CAN bus redundancy as options. InteliSys 2000 targets gas engines and CHP, with multi-ECU support and a large PLC editor. Mains and tie-breaker supervision comes from the InteliMains family; the InteliMains 210 is now discontinued in favour of the InteliMains 210 G2, while InteliMains 1010 serves switchgear in critical installations.

Microgrid and battery storage controllers

InteliNeo 6000 manages on-grid and off-grid hybrid microgrids from one controller, with an onboard Modbus master for up to 32 devices and support for up to 64 gen-set or mains controllers over CAN FD. InteliNeo 530 BESS is aimed at battery system packagers: it links the battery management system with the power conversion system, carries a list of predefined BMS and PCS devices and controls a synchronising AC breaker.

Engine, marine and software

The InteliDrive family controls engines for industrial and marine use, and InteliGen 1000 Marine and InteliDrive 700 Marine (announced in 2026) extend the range on board ships. InteliConfig is a free download. WebSupervisor is a cloud service for fleet monitoring with alarms, geofencing, reporting, a mobile app and an API, sold in Lite and Pro plans. Advanced Reporting, launched in September 2026, adds energy flow, battery, PV and carbon reporting for hybrid sites. Hardware is sold through ComAp subsidiaries and distributors, along with enclosed control panels.

Products and platforms

  1. CM3-Ethernet

    Communication module

Plug-in Ethernet and internet module for InteliLite 4 and other controllers, used for Modbus TCP and remote access.8

Technology

Controller interfaces and protocols

The InteliLite 4 AMF 25 datasheet (hardware 1.3.0, software 1.9.0, issued August 2026) is a representative example. The controller has an isolated RS-485 port, a non-isolated CAN port at 250 or 50 kbps, and USB host and device connectors. It supports Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP, SNMP v1, v2c and v3 (without SNMPv3 traps) and SAE J1939. Plug-in modules add interfaces: CM-RS232-485 for serial lines, CM2-4G-GPS for cellular and location, and CM3-Ethernet for Ethernet and internet access. Multi-ECU support lets the controller talk to several J1939 devices such as engine ECUs, battery chargers and voltage regulators. A Modbus client that controls third-party devices is a paid software key on InteliLite 4, and the same function is marked as optional on InteliGen 1000.

On the microgrid side, InteliNeo 6000 reads PV inverters, batteries and meters as a Modbus RTU and TCP master, with InteliGateway 300 extending the device count.

Reading ComAp controllers from other systems

Victron Energy documents a working route in its GX manual: the GX device reads an InteliLite 4 over Modbus TCP through the CM3-Ethernet module, after the controller's Modbus registers are remapped in InteliConfig from a mapping file Victron supplies. The GX finds the controller by the identification string in register 1307. A Victron community thread shows why the remap matters: before it, the identification string sat at registers 1309 to 1324 rather than 1307 to 1322. The InteliLite 4 Modbus map is configurable per controller, so register addresses belong to the controller's configuration rather than to the model. WebSupervisor data is also available through the ComAp Cloud API, described on the WebSupervisor page.

Security

ComAp states on its information security page that new firmware is encrypted, that traffic over Ethernet, internet or its AirGate service is protected by its own ComAp ciphering technology (CCS), and that controllers detect brute-force login attempts and use individual user accounts. The company holds ISO/IEC 27001 (2025). The Croatian Register of Shipping type approval, valid until 8 May 2030, cites IEC 62443-4-1 certificates from the Czech testing institute EZU for ComAp's secure development process (Maturity Level 2 from March 2025, Maturity Level 3 from April 2026) and an IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2 certificate for InteliGen 1000 and InteliMains 1010. The same approval covers IACS UR E10 and the UR E27 cyber resilience requirements for ships.

Standards and approvals

InteliLite 4 AMF 25 is tested to EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-4, EN 61010-1 and the EN 60068 environmental series, with an IP65 front panel, ULC 6200:2019 and UL, CE and UKCA marks. InteliSys 2000 and InteliNeo 6000 are certified to EN 50549-1, EN 50549-2 and the Austrian TÖR Erzeuger types A and B, and InteliGen 1000 is described as compliant with VDE-AR-N 4110 and 4105, G99 and IEEE 1547.

Utilities and remote grids

In Merriwa, a New South Wales town about 300 km west of Sydney at the end of Ausgrid's distribution network, ComAp supplied the microgrid controls with Yurika Energy. Its case study says InteliNeo 6000 controls the battery and PV, InteliGen 500 G2 runs the 550 kVA diesel set and InteliMains 1010 controllers handle network protection, and that during a storm that tripped the 33 kV feeder the microgrid was re-energised remotely within 20 minutes and ran for four hours. Ausgrid's own project page confirms the microgrid has been commissioned, serves 27 properties including the pharmacy and grocery, and was funded through its Network Innovation allowance from the Australian Energy Regulator. It was the first InteliNeo 6000 installation in Australia.

On Rapu-Rapu Island in the Philippines, the National Power Corporation's diesel plant gained a 500 kW PV array and a 160 kW battery system. ComAp's distributor Static Power Philippines integrated them with an InteliSys NTC Hybrid as master controller, InteliGen NTC BaseBox units on the sets and InteliGateway for the Modbus devices, according to the Rapu-Rapu case study. On Cape Barren Island off Tasmania, home to about 70 people, a 2021 project replaced the power station controls to combine two 80 kVA diesel sets on InteliGen 200 controllers, existing and new PV and a 72 kW / 110 kWh battery, allowing diesel-off operation and monitoring in WebSupervisor.

Equipment makers and integrators

Several customers are quoted on the ComAp homepage. PwrQ says it uses InteliGen 1000 and InteliMains 1010 across its entire product line. The generator maker HIMOINSA says ComAp's high-end controllers handle its most complicated projects, the Italian gen-set builder VISA cites years of collaboration, and the RMI Islands Energy Program credits ComAp's hybrid controls with integrating high shares of solar and storage into the Mayreau power system. Power Control and Automation Solutions used InteliGen 1000 for a power management system providing backup power at a hospital in the English Midlands.

WebSupervisor gives an indication of the installed base: ComAp reports more than 62,000 devices operated and more than 34,000 users on its WebSupervisor page.

Markets

ComAp sells almost entirely outside its home country. The 35th anniversary announcement says more than 98% of 2025 revenue came from outside the Czech Republic. The about page lists 27 offices, 18 subsidiaries and more than 70 distributors, and names marine, utilities, industrial and commercial power, rental, mining, construction, telecom, oil and gas and datacentres as its industries.

Subsidiaries and acquisitions

The first foreign subsidiary opened in Bristol, UK, in 2001, and three more followed in Australia, Germany and Italy in 2012, according to the 30th anniversary article. France, Japan, Turkey and Spain followed in 2024 and Sweden in 2025. The contact page lists subsidiaries including ComAp Pty Ltd in Adelaide, Australia, and ComAp Inc. in Calgary, Canada. In 2019 ComAp agreed to buy the engine controls division of Industrial Power Units, its UK distributor for about two decades, to form a UK subsidiary covering power generation, renewables, marine and engine control in the UK and Ireland, as Power Engineering reported. In 2026 it bought ARPEE, a project engineering firm founded in 2005 in Beaumont-sur-Oise, and folded it into ComAp France to offer turnkey projects in France and French-speaking Africa, per the acquisition announcement.

Segments

The traditional base is diesel and gas gen-sets for standby and prime power, built by packagers and panel builders. Product launches since 2022 have focused on hybrid microgrids, battery storage control, CHP and marine AC and DC power management. The paralleling controllers list grid-code compliance for Europe (EN 50549 and its national versions), the UK (G99) and North America (IEEE 1547). ComAp lists memberships of trade bodies including EUROPGEN, EGSA, UKGSA, ARE and Italia Solare.

Company

Legal entity and ownership

The operating company is ComAp a.s., registered with the Municipal Court in Prague under file B 18788 and identification number 16188667, with its headquarters at U Uranie 1612/14a in Prague 7. The full register extract shows it was entered on 10 April 1991 as a limited liability company and became a joint-stock company on 1 January 2013. The current extract records share capital of CZK 300 million in 1,000,000 registered ordinary shares, a ten-member board of directors chaired by Kevin Matthews and Frédéric Deman as the board member authorised to represent the company. ComAp says it is still owned by the founders' families, and in 2023 its then chairman Bill Parsons called it a privately owned family company, as Power Progress reported.

Leadership

Frédéric Deman became chief executive on 16 March 2023, succeeding Peter Sandin, who had led the company since 2016 and under whom revenue more than doubled, according to the same report. Co-founder Martin Malek is quoted in the company's 30th anniversary article.

Growth

Headcount rose from more than 400 employees with 13 subsidiaries and 60+ distributors in 2021 to more than 600 employees, 18 subsidiaries and 70+ distributors in 2026, with more than 170 people in R&D, according to the about page. Revenue passed €100 million for the first time in 2025, reaching €108.7 million. ComAp gained ISO/IEC 27001 in 2025 and published its first ESG report in 2024, per the anniversary announcement.

Recognition

Deloitte named ComAp among the Czechia Best Managed Companies for 2025, a programme for privately owned firms, and it appears again among the 41 companies in the 2026 list.

Assessment

An established, founder-owned controller maker with a broad, coherent range from single gen-sets to microgrids and battery storage. The strongest evidence is independent: a classification-society type approval that records IEC 62443 certificates from EZU, a third-party Modbus TCP integration documented by Victron Energy, and registry and Deloitte records of a stable private company. Weaker points: manuals sit behind an account, Modbus maps are configured per controller rather than fixed, some interfaces are paid software keys, scale figures are company-reported, and the microgrid and BESS controllers are recent, with few deployments named outside the company's own case studies.

  • Interoperability

Independent sources Proven: datasheets document Modbus RTU and TCP, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and J1939 over defined ports and modules, and Victron Energy publishes a working Modbus TCP integration for InteliLite 4.

    Full note and sources

Caveats: that integration needs registers remapped in InteliConfig, because the map is configurable per controller; the Modbus client for third-party devices is a paid key on InteliLite 4; and the communication guides need a ComAp account.

    Sources: 8, 15, 19, 30, 31

  • Scale

Independent sources Company-reported: €108.7 million revenue in 2025, 600+ employees, 18 subsidiaries, 70+ distributors and 62,000+ devices on WebSupervisor.

    Full note and sources

Independent sources add a 2015 Czech profile citing exports to more than 105 countries and the 2019 UK acquisition, but no current installed-base figure; most scale numbers rest on the company's own pages.

    Sources: 1, 19, 24, 35, 37

  • Stability

Independent sources Registered in Prague since April 1991, joint-stock since 2013 with CZK 300 million share capital, and described by its chairman in 2023 as a privately owned family company.

    Full note and sources

Deloitte listed it among Czechia's Best Managed Companies in 2025 and 2026. Revenue passed €100 million in 2025. Beyond that total, no financial statements were found on the company's site.

    Sources: 1, 28, 32, 33, 34

  • Functionality

Independent sources One family covers single and paralleled gen-sets, mains and tie breakers, engines, marine power management, hybrid microgrids and battery storage, with free configuration software and cloud monitoring.

    Full note and sources

The CRS approval lists the depth of the paralleling and accessory range. InteliNeo and the BESS controller date from 2023 and 2024, so field evidence for them is thinner than for gen-set control.

    Sources: 8, 12, 15, 16, 18, 29

  • Security

Independent sources Stronger than the category norm on evidence: IEC 62443-4-1 ML2 for the development process (EZU, March 2025), ML3 and IEC 62443-4-2 SL2 for InteliGen 1000 and InteliMains 1010 (EZU, April 2026), IACS UR E27 type approval and ISO/IEC 27001.

    Full note and sources

Gaps: the product certificates cover the top-end controllers, not InteliLite or legacy NT units, and transport encryption uses ComAp's proprietary CCS scheme.

    Sources: 5, 12, 29

  • Quality

Independent sources ISO 9001 and ISO 31000-aligned risk management are company statements.

    Full note and sources

Independent evidence comes from the Croatian Register of Shipping type approval, which lists dozens of EZU and VZLU environmental, EMC and vibration test reports, and from grid-code certification of InteliSys 2000 and InteliNeo 6000. Field failure data is not published.

    Sources: 4, 8, 13, 29

  • Transparency

Independent sources Datasheets, revenue, ownership and leadership are public, and the Czech register is open.

    Full note and sources

Manuals, communication guides and other downloads need a free account, register maps are configuration-specific, and the homepage still says 13 subsidiaries while the about page says 18.
