Deep Sea Electronics DSE8620 MKII
Generator set synchronising controller
The DSE8620 MKII controls one generator set in synchronisation with a mains supply and can also be configured as a DSE8610 MKII. It measures generator and mains electrical values and exposes configurable Modbus pages. A monitoring integration must therefore record the installed personality and page configuration rather than assume a universal register map.

Compatibility
Documented Modbus RTU and TCP interfaces
The exact-model datasheet documents simultaneous RS-485 and Ethernet communications plus Modbus RTU and TCP support with configurable Modbus pages. Edge requires a commissioned read-only client configuration; no ready-made map is asserted.
DSE8620 MKII model 8620-02 under the cited product page and datasheet 055-255 issue 1. The installed application may instead use the DSE8610 MKII personality. Confirm firmware, controller personality, communications settings and exported Modbus pages before defining points. Do not write start, stop, breaker, governor, AVR, protection or load-share values from this monitoring path.

Models
| Models | Interface | Route into Edge |
|---|---|---|
| DSE8620 MKII, product variant 8620-02 | Two RS-485 ports, RS-232, Ethernet and CAN; Modbus RTU and TCP support | Use only the commissioned monitoring interface and its configured Modbus pages. |
| DSE8620 MKII configured as DSE8610 MKII | Different generator-to-generator load-share application | Record the active personality and do not reuse an 8620 page list without confirmation. |
| DSE8620 original generation | Separate product and documentation set | Do not infer MKII communications or register behaviour from the earlier controller. |
Specifications
DSE calls the Modbus pages configurable. The site configuration is therefore part of the data contract and must be retained with the Edge point list.12

Interface
Documented measurements and integration boundaries for DSE8620 MKII.
- Generator and mains voltage, current, frequency, kW, kVAr, kVA and power factor where the commissioned Modbus page exports them.
- Engine speed, run hours, battery voltage, fuel level and configured analogue sensor values where exported.
- Alarm, warning, shutdown and controller mode states, preserving the page definition and status encoding.
- Event and trend data remain controller features; their presence does not establish a generic Modbus history interface.
- Breaker, start, governor, AVR, protection and load-share values are control functions and stay outside this monitoring guide.
Assessment
DSE8620 MKII 8620-02 with a site-approved Modbus page export; no generator, breaker, governor, AVR or protection control.
- InteroperabilitySupported with conditions
- The exact product supports Modbus RTU and TCP, but its configurable pages make the site export part of the interface contract.2
- AccuracySupported with conditions
- Electrical and engine measurements are documented; usable external points depend on the commissioned page configuration and CT setup.2
- SecurityLimited
- PIN-protected local configuration is documented, while Modbus authentication and encryption are not stated. Network and client write restrictions are required.2
- ReliabilitySupported with conditions
- Supply dropout behaviour, event logging and environmental tests are published; communications loading still needs site validation.2
- RuggednessSupported with conditions
- Panel-front IP65, temperature, vibration, humidity and shock tests are published, subject to correct panel installation.2
- ScalabilitySupported with conditions
- Multiple simultaneous ports and configurable pages support integration, but addressing and polling capacity remain installation-specific.2
Setup
-
Confirm the nameplate is DSE8620 MKII 8620-02.
Record firmware, the active 8620 or 8610 personality, and the DSE Configuration Suite file used by the generator engineer.
-
Have the responsible generator engineer identify the communications port reserved for monitoring and export the exact Modbus page definitions.
Do not discover points by writing values or copying a map from another installation.
-
For TCP, place the controller and Gateway on a protected controls network.
For RTU, record address, baud rate, parity, termination, bias and isolation. Set a polling rate that does not interfere with the control system.
-
Read identity, mode and a small measurement set first.
Compare voltage, frequency, power and run state with the controller display while the plant is in a safe operating state.
-
Keep all writes disabled.
Treat a successful Modbus response as communications evidence only; it does not prove that the generator or breaker responded physically.
Common questions
- Does every DSE8620 MKII use the same register map?
- No universal page set is asserted here. DSE describes configurable Modbus pages, so the commissioned export must be retained with the point configuration.2
