Compatibility

Compatible through Modbus TCP

SMA publishes a model-specific register package and the ennexOS Modbus server interface. The worked read uses the SMA profile and the inverter’s own device scope, not a system aggregate or a borrowed SunSpec register address.

Sunny Tripower X 25, type STP 25-50 (non-US), using the model-specific parameter package for firmware 03.16.xx.R. Operating manual version 1.4 covers firmware 3.06.15.R and later, but the worked register definitions here are pinned to 03.16.xx.R. STP 25-US-50, Sunny Tripower X 60 and Sunny Tripower Hybrid X are outside this guide.

Specifications

The current operating manual allows configuration as a System Manager or as a subordinate device. In System Manager mode it describes a maximum system size of 135 kVA and up to five additional devices, with device-type limits applying. The inverter can also sit below a separate SMA Data Manager. This guide leaves the existing management role intact and adds only a bounded read of the inverter’s own values. It does not change country settings, power limits, protection functions or the ownership of site-level control.13

Interface

Documented measurements and integration boundaries for Sunny Tripower X 25.

  • Device type code and other documented identity fields.
  • Instantaneous active power from the individual inverter, in watts.
  • Total yield as an unsigned 64-bit watt-hour counter.
  • Model-supported AC and DC measurements, each with its own data width and format.

InteroperabilitySupported with conditions
The exact firmware map and ennexOS interface define local TCP reads; unit IDs and product scope must match.23
AccuracySupported with conditions
The map defines individual inverter power and energy formats, separate from system totals. It does not establish billing-meter accuracy.2
SecurityNot yet assessed
The manual gives network exposure precautions, but the Modbus path does not establish authenticated or encrypted telemetry.13
ReliabilityNot yet assessed
No measured availability or automatic historical backfill contract is established for these instantaneous reads.3
RuggednessSupported with conditions
The operating manual specifies IP65 and -25 to +60 °C, subject to installation and operating limits.1
ScalabilitySupported with conditions
System Manager supports bounded device coordination; the protocol also specifies polling intervals and distinguishes individual from aggregate endpoints.13
LifecycleNot yet assessed
Firmware-specific public documentation is available, without a guaranteed support-lifetime claim in the retained sources.12

Setup

Identify STP 25-50, then read its power

The firmware-specific SMA map assigns device type 30053 to U32 TAGLIST and active power 30775 to S32 FIX0. The device measurement endpoint is unit ID 3.

Identity PDU
03 75 65 00 02: FC03, literal address 30053, quantity 2, unit ID 3 in the TCP header.
Synthetic identity data
00 00 25 10 is unsigned 9488, the map’s code for Sunny Tripower X 25.
Power PDU
03 78 37 00 02: FC03, literal address 30775, quantity 2, on the same unit ID 3.
Synthetic power data
00 00 61 A8 is signed 25000; FIX0 gives 25000 W. This illustrates decoding, not an observed operating result.
Unavailable value
80 00 00 00 is the S32 unavailable sentinel; do not plot it as negative power.

Acceptance: Accept the identity only when the exact model and firmware match. Accept power only after a complete response and comparison with the inverter. System unit ID 2, SunSpec models and subordinate endpoints are separate measurement scopes.

  1. Match the model and firmware

  2. Preserve the existing system role

Record whether this inverter is System Manager or subordinate. Do not change that role to obtain a measurement. Keep the inverter, whole-system and downstream-device identities separate in the point names and client configuration.

  3. Enable the local server deliberately

The interface is disabled by default. Use the documented local configuration with an authorised installer or administrator, then verify the configured port, normally 502. Keep access on the intended site network; the operating manual says not to use port forwarding for Modbus.

  4. Select the individual inverter endpoint

Use SMA profile unit ID 3 for the worked device registers. Unit 1 identifies the product, unit 2 is system scope, and assigned IDs of 10 and above address connected devices. Do not apply the older generic SMA SunSpec unit-ID offset rule to this ennexOS configuration.

  5. Read identity before measurements

Read FC03 at literal decimal address 30053, quantity 2. A U32 TAGLIST value of 9488 identifies Sunny Tripower X 25 in this firmware package. Then read 30775 as two registers for signed active power, or 30513 as four registers for total yield. Read each multi-register item together.

  6. Validate the data and pace requests

Use big-endian order and each entry’s documented format. FIX0 requires no decimal scaling. Treat S32 0x80000000 and U64 all-ones as unavailable, not as real measurements. The ennexOS interface recommends at least one second between transfers and no more than five parameters or measured values simultaneously. Compare the result with the inverter’s own live display.

Common questions

Why is unit ID 2 wrong for this worked read?
The ennexOS interface reserves unit 2 for system parameters and measurements. The exact device map assigns active power and total yield to unit 3. Mixing the two scopes can produce the wrong site interpretation even when a response is syntactically valid.23
Can I use fixed SunSpec addresses instead?
SMA also documents SunSpec for ennexOS. Its supported models are included dynamically and are traversed using each model’s ID and length. That is a separate configuration and discovery path; the literal addresses in this guide belong to the SMA profile.34
Does the register range mean this model is rated 50 kW?
No. A register’s allowed numeric range is not the inverter nameplate rating. The STP 25-50 operating manual gives a 25 kW rated AC output; a broader range in the register definition does not change that rating.12
Can this monitoring client change export limits?
Not through the read-only procedure here. Grid management and control registers have additional operating and permission requirements. The Modbus document also warns that repeated writes to persistent settings can damage flash memory.3
Does a communication failure mean zero production?
No. Missing replies and unavailable sentinels must remain distinguishable from a valid zero-watt value. Otherwise outages in data collection can appear as genuine generation changes.3
