Cummins PowerCommand 3.3
Paralleling generator set controller
Cummins describes PowerCommand 3.3, also identified as PCC 3300, as an integrated generator set monitoring, metering, protection, governing, synchronising and paralleling control. Official Cummins material confirms a Modbus interface and a PowerCommand Cloud installation manual identifies PCC 3300 and PC 3.3 as Modbus RTU devices. The retained public sources do not provide the controller's revision-matched register map, function permissions, scaling, unavailable-value rules or security behavior. Direct Edge monitoring therefore remains unverified, and all generator, breaker, synchronising and load-share commands are excluded.

Compatibility
Direct Edge integration not yet verified
Cummins publishes that PowerCommand 3.3 has a Modbus interface, and its official PowerCommand Cloud manual connects PCC 3300 or PC 3.3 over Modbus RTU. The retained official sources do not include the exact controller register map, addressing convention, readable function set, scaling, exception behavior or privilege boundary required to release a direct Edge client.
Identify the complete generator set, PCC 3300 hardware and software revision, application mode and approved communications option. Obtain the matching Cummins Modbus register document through the authorised service channel and verify a read-only client on a protected network. Do not issue start, stop, reset, breaker, synchronising, voltage, frequency, kW, kVAr, power-factor, load-share, transfer, parameter or output commands.
Models
| Models | Interface | Route into Edge |
|---|---|---|
| PowerCommand 3.3 and PCC 3300 | Cummins identifies PCC 3300 and PC 3.3 as Modbus RTU devices in the PowerCommand Cloud manual; the exact installed communications hardware and revision remain project evidence. | Hold a direct Edge route until the revision-matched Cummins register document and read permissions are retained and proven on the installed controller. |
| PowerCommand 3.3 with Masterless Load Demand | An additional s-CAN network shares information among paralleled generator sets and can support automatic start and stop decisions for up to 16 sets. | s-CAN is part of the Cummins controls architecture, not an Edge connection path. Do not attach monitoring equipment or infer command authority from the MLD feature. |
| Earlier PCC 3100, Detector and PowerCommand 1.x or 2.x controls | Cummins treats these as separate controls or upgrade origins, with different communications requirements. | Do not transfer a PCC 3300 identity, register assumption or wiring plan to another PowerCommand generation. |
Specifications
The official PowerCommand Cloud manual lists PCC 3300 and PC 3.3 as controls connected over Modbus RTU. It proves a supported Cummins monitoring relationship, but it does not publish a reusable third-party register map or permission model.2
- Exact family
- PowerCommand 3.3, also identified by Cummins as PCC 3300 or PC 3.3; hardware and software revision must be recorded2
- Published external interface
- Modbus interface; Cummins Cloud documentation connects PCC 3300 and PC 3.3 over Modbus RTU23
- Control scope
- Integrated voltage regulation, governing, protection, synchronising, load sharing, breaker and power-transfer functions depending on application13
- MLD scope
- Additional s-CAN information sharing and automatic load-demand operation for up to 16 paralleled generator sets1
- Evidence gap
- No retained public revision-matched register map, function permissions, scaling, unavailable-value behavior or security contract2
Interface
Documented measurements and integration boundaries for PowerCommand 3.3.
- Potential generator voltage, current, frequency, active power, reactive power, apparent power and power-factor observations require the exact Cummins register document and scaling for the installed revision.
- Potential engine speed, DC voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, run state, operating hours, start count and fault history require a source-defined point contract before publication.
- Controller mode, synchronising state, generator and utility breaker feedback, alarms and transfer status must remain observations only and must be traced to the commissioned application logic.
- Remote start, stop, reset, breaker operation, synchronising, load sharing, voltage and frequency regulation, power setpoints, transfer and all parameter or output writes remain outside this guide.
Assessment
PowerCommand 3.3 or PCC 3300 after exact hardware, software, application and communications option are identified; no released Edge point set or operational control.
- InteroperabilityLimited
- Cummins confirms Modbus RTU connectivity for PCC 3300 or PC 3.3, but the retained official material does not provide the revision-matched third-party data contract.23
- AccuracyNot yet assessed
- Cummins documents generator and engine metering capabilities, but no retained register map establishes which values, units, scaling or quality states a third-party client can read.12
- SecurityNot yet assessed
- The retained sources do not establish authentication, encryption, client allow-listing or privilege separation for the controller's Modbus interface.2
- ReliabilityNot yet assessed
- The controller is designed for integrated generator operation, but no retained third-party data contract defines stale values, exceptions, restart or client-loading behavior.12
- RuggednessSupported with conditions
- Cummins describes PowerCommand controls as designed for generator set environments, while exact environmental ratings remain dependent on the installed control and generator set documentation.1
Setup
-
Record the exact control identity
Photograph the generator set and controller nameplates. Record the generator model and serial number, PCC 3300 hardware and software revision, HMI revision, application mode and installed communications option.
-
Obtain the matching Cummins data contract
Through the authorised Cummins service channel, retain the Modbus document for the installed controller revision. Require addresses, address convention, function codes, data types, word order, units, scaling, unavailable values, alarms and access permissions.
-
Separate monitoring from operation
Have the generator controls owner define a read-only point allowlist and protected communications segment. Exclude all start, stop, reset, breaker, synchronising, load-share, transfer, setpoint, parameter and output writes.
-
Prove a bounded read-only pilot
Compare controller identity and a small documented point set with the local HMI in safe stopped and running states. Test stale data, communications loss and restart without changing generator or breaker operation.
