metrify smart metering: Smart-meter rollout, market communications and control infrastructure

metrify operates German smart-meter systems and control equipment, combining installation, market communications and partner APIs for energy-service providers.

Summary

Best for
Energy suppliers, installers and flexible-asset providers needing managed smart-meter deployment.
Less suited to
Selecting an industrial meter from a manufacturer catalogue or an unregulated private gateway.
Deployment
Installation and ongoing operation of intelligent metering systems and control units.
Data in
Meter readings, installation records and regulated market-communication messages.
Pricing
The partner page advertises an annual iMSys and CLS service price; installation eligibility and the customer contract determine the applicable offer.

Overview

metrify supplies the operational service around German intelligent metering systems, rather than simply selling the meter hardware. Its partner offering covers the path from a customer order through installation, operation, monitoring and fault handling. The service also manages the associated market communications and coordination at the grid connection.

This is particularly relevant to energy suppliers and installers that need smart meters for dynamic tariffs or controllable household equipment but do not want to establish their own metering operation. The company overview describes measurement, data and market processes as one integrated system. Device installation and the administrative lifecycle are therefore both central to the product.

Offering

The partner service offers a digital ordering journey, customer landing pages and a standardised partner API. The associated MSB platform includes status tracking and service information, while end-customer functions can be integrated into a partner application. These are commercial and operational integration options, not a claim that the meter exposes an unrestricted local API.

metrify also installs control equipment alongside intelligent metering systems. Its gridX partnership divides responsibilities explicitly: metrify installs meters and control units, while gridX supplies the home energy-management system and its installation partners connect it. This preserves a useful distinction between metering infrastructure and the software that optimises household devices.

Technology

The smart-meter gateway explanation distinguishes the digital meter from the communication gateway. It describes WAN communication with authorised market participants, LMN connections to meters, and HAN/CLS connections for local and controllable systems. These describe the gateway architecture, not separate certifications of metrify as a company.

The market-partner information sheet documents the company's operational role and message workflows. It names EDIFACT-related processes including UTILMD, INVOIC, REMADV and MSCONS, and separates contract, meter-exchange and data-delivery contacts. That information is useful to another market participant arranging an integration; the partner API serves a different purpose in ordering and customer onboarding.

Markets

metrify's partner programme addresses dynamic-tariff suppliers, installers and manufacturers or providers of flexible energy assets. Published examples include tado° energy and Thermosol, alongside a Viessmann Climate Solutions partnership. The common requirement is a managed route from a customer sale to working metering infrastructure.

In July 2026, metrify joined the Energy Systems Alliance, an initiative involving Kiwigrid, Solarwatt and Tibber. The announcement assigns metering and control-unit operation to metrify, energy management to Kiwigrid, dynamic tariffs to Tibber and decentralised-energy expertise to Solarwatt. This is a defined division of responsibilities rather than a single interchangeable product stack.

Company

Enpal announced the formation of metrify in July 2025, transferring its metering business, employees and installed-system portfolio into the new company. The announcement names Dr. Wim Drożak and Bela Schramm as managing directors. Earlier activity within Enpal should therefore be distinguished from the founding date of the current company.

The July 2026 alliance announcement explicitly describes metrify as an Enpal Group subsidiary, despite its ability to serve customers independently in the market. Its market-partner sheet gives a Berlin address and identifies its role as a metering-point operator. This separates the company's legal and operational identity from the hardware manufacturers whose meters and gateways may be deployed.
