Enphase Energy IQ8P-3P / IQ Gateway Commercial 2
Commercial PV microinverter system
Enphase IQ8 Commercial Microinverters report only to their IQ Gateway Commercial 2, over power line communication. Edge measures the array through an EpiSensor ZEM on the PV AC circuit. The gateway's local API also serves JSON over HTTPS on the LAN, but every request needs a token issued by Enphase's cloud: one year for the system owner, 12 hours for an installer.
Compatibility
Compatible with EpiSensor Edge through an EpiSensor ZEM on the PV AC circuit
The IQ8 Commercial datasheet gives power line communication as the microinverters' only interface, and monitoring requires an IQ Gateway Commercial 2. The sources publish no Modbus map for the gateway. Edge measures PV production through an EpiSensor ZEM with CTs on the array's AC circuit. Enphase's technical brief TEB-00060-2.0 documents local JSON APIs on the gateway that a custom flow in Edge's Node-RED workspace can read with an Enphase-issued bearer token.
IQ8P-3P-72-E-US, IQ8P-3P-72-E-DOM-US and IQ8H-3P-72-E-US with IQ Gateway Commercial 2 (ENV2-IQC2-AM3-3P), from datasheets DSH-00236-8.0 and DSH-00212-4.0 and technical brief TEB-00060-2.0 (IQ Gateway software 7.0.x or later). Site check: compare the ZEM's PV power with the Enphase App or the gateway's production reading over the same interval. No Enphase control, export limiting or grid-profile function moves to Edge.

Interface
Documented measurements and integration boundaries for IQ8P-3P / IQ Gateway Commercial 2.
- GET /info needs no token and returns the gateway serial number, part number and software version (for example D7.4.22) as XML.
- GET /api/v1/production/inverters returns, per microinverter, serialNumber, lastReportDate (epoch seconds), devType, lastReportWatts and maxReportWatts. Enphase says it updates once every five minutes.
- GET /ivp/pdm/energy returns wattHoursToday, wattHoursSevenDays, wattHoursLifetime and wattsNow for the microinverters (pcu) and the gateway's production and consumption meters (eim).
- GET /ivp/meters/readings returns production and consumption CT values (activePower in W, reactivePower in var, voltage, current, freq, cumulative energy) per meter and per phase channel, updated once every five minutes.
- GET /ivp/meters/gridReading returns per-phase voltage, current, frequency and active and reactive power at the grid connection. Negative active power means export.
- Local API requests carry Authorization: Bearer <token>; the brief marks only /info as accessible without one. The gateway uses a self-signed certificate.
Assessment
IQ8P-3P and IQ8H-3P microinverters with IQ Gateway Commercial 2, from datasheets DSH-00236-8.0 and DSH-00212-4.0 and technical brief TEB-00060-2.0. Compare the ZEM or API reading with the Enphase App over the same interval.
- InteroperabilityLimited
- The local API is documented with endpoints and sample JSON, but every read depends on a cloud-issued token with a fixed lifetime and no Modbus map is published.13
- AccuracySupported with conditions
- The gateway's production CTs are revenue-grade at ±0.5 %; local API values update every five minutes.13
- SecuritySupported with conditions
- Local APIs need a bearer token over HTTPS on software 7.0.x or later; the gateway certificate is self-signed.1
- ReliabilityLimited
- Readings update every five minutes and installer tokens expire after 12 hours, so the API path needs renewal and staleness handling.1
- RuggednessSupported with conditions
- Microinverters are NEMA Type 6 / IP67 from -40 to 65 °C; the gateway is IP30 and needs an indoor location or a NEMA 3R enclosure.23
Setup
Read one microinverter's last report from the local API
A read-only HTTPS GET on the site LAN, with Enphase's own sample response from technical brief TEB-00060-2.0. The token is a placeholder; the sample is Enphase's, not a captured site.
- Request
- GET https://<gateway IP>/api/v1/production/inverters with headers Accept: application/json and Authorization: Bearer <token>.
- Enphase sample response
- [{"serialNumber": "121935144671", "lastReportDate": 1654171836, "devType": 1, "lastReportWatts": 15, "maxReportWatts": 38}]
- Decode
- lastReportWatts 15 is the last reported active power in W. maxReportWatts 38 is the highest power that unit has ever reported, not a rating.
- Timestamp
- lastReportDate 1654171836 is epoch seconds: 2 June 2022, 12:10:36 UTC. Use it as the value's time, not the time of the request.
- Authentication failure
- Without a valid token the request fails; Enphase's curl example uses -f so an unauthenticated redirect shows as an error. Treat that as missing data and renew the token.
Acceptance: Accept the API path when the sum of lastReportWatts across units, or production.pcu wattsNow, agrees with the ZEM's PV power over the same five-minute window. Keep the ZEM as the continuous measurement when the token lapses.
-
Start with the ZEM on the PV circuit
Measure the array where its branch circuits combine, with ZEM CTs on all three phases and the import direction recorded. This needs no Enphase account and keeps working if a token expires. Compare its power with the Enphase App over the same interval.
-
Decide who owns the token
This guide uses technical brief TEB-00060-2.0. A token comes from entrez.enphaseenergy.com or from enlighten.enphaseenergy.com/entrez-auth-token?serial_num= followed by the gateway serial number, signed in with Enphase credentials. The system owner's token lasts one year; an installer's lasts 12 hours. Agree with the owner who generates and renews it.
-
Check the gateway without a token
From the site LAN, GET https://<gateway IP>/info. It answers without a token and returns the serial number and software version. On software 7.0.x or later the other local APIs in the brief need the token.
-
Read production with the bearer token
Send GET https://<gateway IP>/ivp/pdm/energy with the headers Accept: application/json and Authorization: Bearer <token>. Accept the gateway's self-signed certificate for that host only. Map wattsNow and wattHoursLifetime under production.pcu.
-
Respect the update interval and keep control with Enphase
Enphase updates the inverter and meter readings once every five minutes, so poll no faster than that and keep lastReportDate as the value's timestamp. Export limiting, grid profiles and the gateway's digital I/O stay in the Enphase system.
Common questions
- Does the Enphase IQ Gateway local API need a token?
- Yes, on IQ Gateway software 7.0.x or higher. The token is generated from the Enphase cloud for the gateway's serial number. A system owner's token is valid for one year and an installer's for 12 hours. The brief marks /info as accessible without a token.1
- How often do the local API values change?
- Enphase states that meter readings, per-microinverter production and consumption reports update once every five minutes. Faster polling returns the same values.1
- What does a negative grid reading mean?
- On /ivp/meters/gridReading a negative active power means export to the grid and a positive value means import.1
