Two additions to the Gateway software: Edge Flows and Edge Snaps. Both are about giving the people who run a site more control over how their energy data is shaped and where it goes.
Edge Flows: shaping and routing data on site
Edge Flows went through more than 70 internal release versions before this one. It removes most of the integration work that comes from every platform wanting data in a different shape and over a different protocol. This visual programming interface allows for drag-and-drop functionality, making it even easier to establish comprehensive, secure, bi-directional integrations. Edge Flows is available to EpiSensor partners.
Edge Snaps: adding applications to a Gateway
Edge Snaps is an application store for the EpiSensor IoT Gateway, developed with Canonical. It builds on Ubuntu Core, where each component of the operating system is updated on its own.
It lets a Gateway be extended with applications such as machine learning, VPNs or a full energy management system, all running locally.
One of those applications is the Home Assistant snap, which analyses energy and environmental data, raises alerts and draws live dashboards on the Gateway itself, with no cloud dependency. What Edge Snaps does today is on the Edge page.
The part nobody funds
The energy transition needs better tools to use, not only better technology underneath. Edge Flows and Edge Snaps are both about the integration work that sits between a sensor and a working energy service.
