Overview

Plexigrid develops software for electricity distribution operators whose networks are accommodating more solar generation, electric vehicles and storage. Its platform connects the physical network model with operating measurements so that monitoring, investment planning and flexibility decisions use a common representation of the grid. Three modules address different jobs: Ari makes low-voltage behaviour visible, Tatari evaluates capacity and connection scenarios, and Tia coordinates flexibility around network constraints. The focus is network capacity and electrical behaviour, rather than a building’s bill alone. Distribution topology and the location of flexible resources therefore matter alongside their energy totals.

Offering

Ari combines smart-meter measurements, events, GIS and enterprise information to show low-voltage conditions and heavily loaded assets. Its applications include investigating voltage problems, identifying outages, examining losses and finding meter-configuration inconsistencies. Tatari adds an unbalanced power-flow engine to simulate voltages, currents and loading across the network. It supports new-connection assessments, capacity maps, switching scenarios and longer-term planning with distributed-resource scenarios. These products share the digital twin but answer different questions: Ari concerns observed and forecast operating conditions, while Tatari tests network configurations and future changes before investment or operational decisions are made.

Technology

The deployment architecture supports private cloud, public cloud and on-premises hardware, with SaaS also available. The twin combines network connectivity and electrical characteristics with measurements, including smart-meter and substation information. Modelled results can extend visibility where measurements are incomplete, which makes the distinction between calculated and measured values important. Tia applies this network context to flexibility: it identifies constraints, evaluates responses and activates resources through direct signals or market mechanisms. Dynamic operating envelopes communicate permitted import or export conditions to aggregators. This is an orchestration layer connected to distribution systems and counterparties, rather than a universal field-device driver.

Markets

Plexigrid’s principal customers are distribution system operators managing connection queues, thermal limits and voltage constraints. Tatari’s published applications include assessing new load or generation, comparing reinforcement with storage or flexible connections, and simulating widespread adoption of distributed resources. Tia supports several commercial arrangements: utility-owned assets where regulations permit, bilateral agreements, non-firm connections, local flexibility markets and tariff-based incentives. Those arrangements have different contractual and regulatory requirements even when they use the same underlying network model. The modular portfolio lets an operator start with visibility and planning before adding active flexibility management across eligible resources.

Company

Plexigrid began in July 2020 as a University of Oviedo spin-off, according to its company history. Its organisation spans Sweden and Spain; the official company profile identifies Stockholm as headquarters, with a further location in Gijón. Alberto Méndez is CEO and co-founder, and Pablo Arboleya is CTO and co-founder. The current management page also names Ana Ramos as COO and Enrique Riesgo as CSEO. The company reports ISO 27001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 management-system certifications. These relate to organisational systems and should not be confused with certification of every grid integration or operating arrangement.
