Meter gateways and data collection for building energy projects
Elkor Technologies designs and builds WattsOn power and energy meters, current transformers, Rogowski coils and signal-conditioning modules in London, Ontario. Its products go to building energy management, solar production metering and equipment makers that add energy monitoring to their own systems.
Elkor Technologies is a small electronics manufacturer in London, Ontario, that has made power and current measurement hardware since the mid-1990s. Its home page describes a company that develops and builds power and load monitoring electronics for energy management and renewable energy, and works with equipment makers and solution providers that want to add energy monitoring to their own products. The specialisations it lists are revenue metering, solar production, zero export, branch circuit monitoring and OEM equipment.
The company's name is carried by the WattsOn brand. Elkor filed the WATTSON trademark in the United States in January 2005 and has used it in commerce since October 2005, according to the USPTO record, which covers devices for measuring voltage, current, power, energy, power factor, frequency and temperature. The original WattsOn universal power transducer and its 1100 and 1200 versions were followed by the WattsOn-Mark II, now the main product, and by the WattsOn-MCM multi-circuit system.
What sets Elkor apart is that it makes the whole measurement chain. Alongside the meters it builds its own mA-output current transformers, which it describes as safe because they do not arc when opened, revenue-grade split-core CTs, Rogowski coils and the i-Snail range of self-powered current switches and transducers. A WattsOn-Mark II accepts mA, 333 mV, 5 A or Rogowski inputs, and the mA models let the installer set the CT model and ratio in the field rather than at ordering.
The WattsOn-Mark II is a DIN-rail, four-quadrant power and energy meter that measures each phase individually, so one model covers single-phase, split-phase and three-phase services up to 347 Vac line to neutral and 600 Vac line to line without potential transformers. The datasheet orders it as W2 with three choices: M1 for Modbus RTU, M2 for BACnet MS/TP or E4 for Ethernet and Wi-Fi; a CT input of 5A, mA, mV or RC for Rogowski coils; and an optional DL module that adds a backlit display, a real-time clock and 2 MB of logging. The meter kit puts the meter and a 24 VDC power supply in a small or medium NEMA enclosure, with an optional colour touchscreen.
The WattsOn-MCM is a modular system for many circuits: a main board, voltage interface, communication card and up to 20 input cards of three channels each, giving up to 60 single-phase, 30 split-phase or 20 three-phase circuits, or any mix. The older WattsOn transducer remains listed, with Modbus RTU, pulse outputs and an optional pair of 0 to 10 VDC analog outputs.
The current transformer range runs from the solid-core MCT and split-core MS series to the MRA series, revenue-grade split-core CTs from 300 to 2500 A, and the ULNRC-600 Rogowski coil for bus bars up to 50 kA. The i-Snail devices turn line current into a status contact, a 0 to 5 VDC signal or a 4 to 20 mA loop, and the ET series of interfacing modules includes relay, isolation and pulse-totalising boards. The ETport gateway bridges Modbus RTU devices to Modbus TCP, and Elkor Cloud displays and exports meter data, keeping up to 13 months of history.
Elkor sells direct from London, Ontario, and through distributors. Its ordering page publishes no prices, accepts card payment for smaller orders and NET 30 terms above that, and gives typical lead times of five to seven days.
The WattsOn-Mark II samples true-RMS voltage and current with a 2 kHz input bandwidth, the 33rd harmonic at 60 Hz, so it stays accurate on distorted waveforms from variable frequency drives. Instantaneous W, VA and VAR update every 100 ms and other parameters every 500 ms. The current datasheet gives 0.1% typical and 0.2% maximum error on power and energy, states ANSI C12.1-2022 class 0.1 accuracy and support for EN 50470-1 and -3 and IEC 62053-21, -22 and -23, and lists UL listing E250395, FCC Part 15 class B and 3,500 Vac input to output isolation. All parameters, including per-phase import, export and net energy and reactive energy by quadrant, are available as integers and floating-point values.
The RS-485 port runs Modbus RTU from 9,600 to 230,400 baud or BACnet MS/TP up to 115,200 baud, with a separate expansion bus for accessories and two solid-state relays for pulse, status or alarm outputs. The E4 version adds Ethernet and Wi-Fi with Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP, MQTT, a web server and HTTP POST over SSL, and the datasheet notes compatibility with common solar industry Modbus specifications and a customisable register map. The user manual prints each register as a zero-based offset and a 4xxxx address, keeps every measurement in both a float block and a scaled integer block, and provides fixed-value debug registers and a word-order switch so an integrator can confirm the convention before reading data.
The WattsOn-MCM uses the same communication options, Modbus RTU on RS-485 or Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP, MQTT and HTTP POST on Ethernet or Wi-Fi, updates at 2 Hz and is UL listed under the same file. The ETport gateway passes Modbus TCP requests to RS-485 devices, offers a pass-through port for a second RTU master, computes virtual datapoints from device registers and posts readings on a schedule with HTTP authentication.
On the sensor side, the ULNRC-600 Rogowski coil is UL listed to UL 61010-1, rated 1000 V CAT III and 600 V CAT IV, and meets class 0.5 to IEC 61869-2, with the integrator built into the WattsOn-Mark II rather than a separate module. The MRA CTs are class 0.5 to IEC 60044-1 and ANSI C57.13 uncompensated, and clamp their open-circuit voltage at 7 Vac peak, so no shorting blocks are needed.

Elkor's market is mainly North American. Its products are made in Canada and, its ordering page notes, duty free within the NAFTA countries, and its approvals follow that market: ANSI accuracy classes, UL listing and FCC emissions. In California, the Energy Commission's list of eligible system performance meters includes nine Elkor WattsOn models, all marked as eligible for performance-based incentive metering.
Solar monitoring is the clearest channel. AlsoEnergy, the Boulder, Colorado solar monitoring company, sells the meter under its own part numbers MT-RG-05 for Modbus RTU and MT-RG-06 for Modbus TCP, and its datasheet presents the WattsOn-Mark II as the revenue-grade meter of its edge-to-cloud platform, ANSI C12.20 class 0.2 certified and California Solar Initiative approved. Zero export, one of Elkor's listed specialisations, relies on fast power readings, and the meter updates power every 100 ms.
In building energy management, the meters feed BMS and DDC controllers over BACnet or Modbus, and the WattsOn-MCM and per-phase CT ratios on the Mark II suit branch circuit and tenant submetering. Distribution reaches beyond Canada: AYA Instruments of Pittsburgh sells the WattsOn-Mark II meter kit with a one-year warranty, and Instrumentation Systems and Services supplies the i-Snail current transducers in the United Kingdom, describing Elkor as a leading North American supplier of transducers, meters and switches.
The OEM side of the business is less visible by design. The home page names equipment makers and solution providers as partners who build Elkor measurement into their products, and the Mark II's display-free, logging-free variant is reserved for OEM orders.
Elkor Technologies Inc. is a Canadian corporation at 6 Bainard Street, London, Ontario, the address on its website and on its WATTSON trademark registration. The company does not publish its founding date. Its UK distributor, ISS, gives 1995, while its Better Business Bureau record gives a business start of January 1996 and names Chris Korzycki as managing director.
The company publishes nothing on its ownership and has announced no outside investment, acquisitions or parent group. It is small, and it handles ordering, technical support and shipping from the same London address. The US trademark for WattsOn was registered in October 2007, renewed in 2017, and a further maintenance filing was received in October 2026, which shows the brand is still being kept up.
The product line has moved forward steadily. The earlier WattsOn 1100 and 1200 transducers are still on the California eligible meter list beside the WattsOn-Mark II, and the Mark II has gained BACnet MS/TP, an Ethernet and Wi-Fi model with BACnet/IP and MQTT, and a 2022 accuracy class in its current datasheet. Elkor Cloud and the ETport gateway add a software and connectivity layer on top of the meters. The company publishes no news, headcount or annual figures.
A small, long-lived Canadian specialist whose WattsOn-Mark II is a well-documented, independently certified revenue-grade meter with an unusually wide set of interfaces for its size: Modbus RTU and TCP, BACnet MS/TP and IP, MQTT and HTTP POST. Independent evidence comes from a solar monitoring reseller, distributors, the California meter list and the USPTO, not from trade press or named projects. The company publishes no prices, figures, leadership or security policy, and its founding year is not settled by any registry.
Independent sources Proven: Modbus RTU or BACnet MS/TP on RS-485, and Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP, MQTT and HTTP POST on the E4 model, with a register map that carries every value as float and integer and debug registers to check the convention.
Independent sources A very small company: no headcount, revenue or installed-base figures are published, and there are no named customers or projects.
Independent sources In business since the mid-1990s at the same London, Ontario address, with the WattsOn trademark used since 2005, renewed in 2017 and maintained again in 2026, and early WattsOn models still on the California meter list.
Company sources A complete measurement chain from one maker: single-circuit and 60-channel meters, mA, split-core, revenue-grade and Rogowski sensors, current transducers, signal interfaces, a Modbus gateway and a basic cloud dashboard with 13 months of history.
Company sources Most products are serial devices whose exposure depends on the receiving system.
Independent sources Independent sources confirm ANSI C12.20 class 0.2 certification by a testing laboratory, UL listing and California Solar Initiative approval, and the California Energy Commission lists nine WattsOn models as PBI-eligible.
