Overview

Arenko develops Nimbus for operating grid-scale batteries, renewable generation and hybrid sites. The platform connects physical equipment to asset managers and trading desks. Nimbus Asset provides the control and data foundation, while monitoring and trading applications use that foundation for different operational tasks. This separates site connectivity from the decision about who operates the trading strategy.

Arenko began as a battery developer and operator before selling its asset portfolio in 2020 to concentrate on software. Its company history and funding announcement describes experience with the 41 MW Bloxwich battery. That background helps explain the emphasis on dispatch, operating constraints and commercial workflows alongside telemetry.

Offering

Nimbus Asset combines Iris on-site hardware, telemetry and scheduling interfaces. Nimbus Performance adds portfolio monitoring, alerts, maintenance workflows and comparisons between technical condition and financial outcomes. Nimbus Trade provides trading automation, scheduling, dispatch and commercial reporting. The modules serve related but different teams: site operations, asset management and trading.

Customers can use their own forecasts or algorithms within the trading workflow, as demonstrated by RWE's published deployment. Arenko also offers a managed route-to-market service covering trading and operational support. Buying software for an internal desk therefore differs from appointing Arenko to provide the market-facing service; the site-control layer can support either approach.

Technology

The Iris hardware and Nimbus Asset description names site communication, control and data gathering, with standardised telemetry and APIs for power, energy and response-profile schedules. Configurable constraints cover asset limitations, maintenance and co-located equipment. The architecture is intended to preserve a consistent data and control interface across different equipment suppliers.

Nimbus Trade then automates day-ahead and intraday bids, asset schedules, dispatch and commercial reporting. Its API access and live profit-and-loss information connect operational execution to trading analysis. This is more specific than a claim of general interoperability: the published material describes control and market workflows, but does not provide an open register-map library for arbitrary field devices.

Customers

RWE selected Nimbus for three UK DC-coupled solar-plus-storage projects, combining 165 MW of solar with 55 MW / 110 MWh of batteries. The announcement describes integration with RWE's own trading platform and algorithms, making it a useful example for organisations that want to retain proprietary trading intelligence.

Smart Metering Systems extended its software partnership through a ten-year agreement, while ElectroRoute selected Nimbus Trade to connect with its CORE platform for UK battery-market operations. These deployments illustrate different customer operating models rather than a single turnkey template. Published portfolio figures belong to the dates and scope of their announcements and are not a guarantee of performance for another asset.

Company

Arenko's May 2025 funding announcement dates founding to 2015, identifies Rupert Newland as founder and records a £9 million round led by HICO Investment Group. It also explains the transition from owning batteries to an enterprise-software business. The 2015 founding date is distinct from later commercial and financing milestones.

The company contact page gives its London office at Harmsworth House. Its leadership page identifies Rupert Newland as chief executive and board member, Roger Hollies as chief technology officer and Eddie Siow as chief financial officer. This management structure covers commercial leadership, the control-software platform and the financial responsibilities of an enterprise supplier.
