Teltonika Networks supplies industrial routers and gateways for cellular connectivity, serial communications and remote equipment access.
Teltonika Networks supplies industrial connectivity equipment, including cellular routers and gateways for connecting field devices to remote systems. Its role in an energy installation can be the communications path between meters, controllers and an operating platform. It does not replace the measurement function of the connected instrument.
The RUT956, TRB145 and TRB143 illustrate three different selections. RUT956 combines several network and serial interfaces; TRB145 focuses on an RS485 connection; TRB143 provides wired M-Bus. Choosing the field interface first avoids buying a cellular product that cannot connect directly to the equipment already installed at the site.
The RUT956 overview specifies LTE Cat 4, dual SIM operation, Ethernet, RS232, RS485 and multiple inputs and outputs. This is a broader site-router arrangement than the compact TRB145, whose stated purpose is remote communication with RS485 equipment over LTE Cat 1 connectivity.
The TRB143 utility example describes a wired M-Bus gateway communicating with up to 250 self-powered meters. It can supply bus power to up to six meters itself. Those are different limits: a larger addressable network does not mean the gateway can electrically power that many connected meters. Meter power requirements must therefore be included in the selection.

The TRB145 Modbus documentation describes serial-device configuration, server addresses, request intervals and timeouts. The gateway can query a configured device, but the commissioning engineer still needs the downstream instrument's register map and serial settings. A supported transport does not identify which register represents imported energy or how its value is encoded.
The RUT956 Modbus documentation gives the configuration path for that router's implementation. For M-Bus, the TRB143 application separates telemetry collection from meter powering. These distinctions help place the gateway correctly in the system: it supplies communication and collection functions, while the selected meter remains the source of the measurement.
RMS adds a separate remote-management service with an OpenAPI-described API. It should be evaluated separately from the router’s field protocols and local network configuration. Manufacturer documentation.

Remote energy sites often need both a local field connection and a connection back to an operating system. The RUT956 provides multiple interfaces for sites with mixed equipment, while the TRB145 offers a compact RS485-focused arrangement. That choice can reduce unnecessary hardware where only one serial bus is needed.
For building utilities, the TRB143 submetering example covers collecting readings from several meter types through wired M-Bus. The number of meters, their electrical supply requirements and the reporting interval should be considered together. Network reachability alone does not demonstrate that meter readings have been decoded correctly or that every required value is available.
The official contact page identifies Teltonika Networks in Kaunas, Lithuania, and the company homepage describes its local research and development activity. This profile concerns the networking-products business. The Lithuanian company register records the formation documents for UAB TELTONIKA NETWORKS on 23 June 2020. Teltonika’s manufacturer declaration confirms that exact legal entity number, 305579419. This dates the current legal business, not the older Teltonika group or its earlier networking products.
The public product pages link to a detailed manufacturer wiki, including the TRB145 and RUT956 Modbus instructions used here. That documentation is particularly useful when evaluating an integration because it exposes concrete configuration requirements rather than only naming protocols. Exact firmware, installed packages and the downstream device configuration remain part of the practical implementation.
