Heimdall Power combines conductor-mounted sensors and software models to monitor overhead-line conditions and support transmission-capacity decisions.
Heimdall Power supplies sensors and software for overhead electricity networks. Its technology architecture combines physical Neuron devices mounted on conductors with Virtual Neuron software models. The physical measurements and modelling serve complementary roles: one observes conditions at instrumented locations, while the other extends analysis using asset, weather and terrain information.
The solution range includes dynamic line ratings, ambient-adjusted ratings and monitoring of physical or electrical events. These functions support utility decisions about existing network capacity and operating conditions. They are intended for grid assets and operational workflows, rather than household electricity billing or the circuit-level energy monitoring normally installed inside a commercial building.
The Neuron sensor is a conductor-mounted device that harvests power from the line and supports remote firmware updates. The published technology page identifies cellular and satellite connectivity, including NB-IoT and LTE-M, alongside measurements used for line-condition analysis. Heimdall also supplies a drone installation system for deploying sensors on live lines through a specialist installation process.
On the software side, Heimdall DLR, AAR and Facility Ratings address different aspects of network capacity. DLR combines direct measurements and modelling, AAR uses weather and asset information in a virtual deployment, and Facility Ratings manages component limits across a circuit. Distinguishing these modules helps separate sensor deployment from rating-data management.
Ratings and situational-awareness applications with API access.3
The solution descriptions identify temperature, current and inclination as inputs to dynamic line rating, with forecasts and contingency analysis available through the platform. Additional applications examine sag, clearance, icing and line movement. A rating remains constrained by the relevant assets: knowing more about the conductor does not remove the limits of other circuit components.
Heimdall exposes software integration through an API. Its legacy API reference explicitly directs new development to the External API portal, while retaining legacy support during functional migration. That is an important implementation boundary for an existing integration: an older documented endpoint should not be mistaken for the destination receiving every new platform capability.
Heimdall's project and company updates describe work with utilities including Bayernwerk Netz, Litgrid and Caruna. The projects span direct sensing and software-based visibility, illustrating that deployment scope can differ between grid operators. The objective is to understand and use existing network infrastructure more effectively while maintaining awareness of its constraints.
The operational solution range also covers icing, wildfire-related conditions and harmful line movement. These uses place the technology in both planning and real-time situational awareness. A utility can use rating information for capacity decisions while relying on event information to direct inspection and response, with both drawing on the same underlying sensor and modelling infrastructure.
Heimdall Power states that it was founded in Norway in 2016 in its current company history. The same page identifies Oslo and Charlotte as its two headquarters, with Charlotte serving the North American organization. Jørgen Festervoll is named Chief Executive Officer, following his appointment in 2023 after earlier board roles.
The company combines hardware engineering, software modelling and deployment technology. Its resource archive records the establishment of the US subsidiary and expansion of utility projects across Europe and North America. The current portfolio has developed beyond a single line-rating application into several tools that use conductor and environmental information, while retaining the Neuron sensor and software platform as the common technical foundation.
