About the role

EpiSensor builds the IoT hardware and software behind demand response and energy management, and our partners use our systems in large installations worldwide. We are hiring an electronics engineer to work directly with the CTO on the next generation of our products.

The two applications we focus on both come back to our mission of accelerating the transition to sustainable energy. Demand response supports the electricity grid so it can carry a higher share of renewable generation. Energy management gives commercial and industrial customers what they need to act on their consumption. We have also built large systems in district heating, refrigeration monitoring and predictive maintenance.

Our culture is the most valuable thing we have. We try to be kind, to each other and to customers, partners and suppliers, and to look past a problem to the people and reasons behind it. We support our people, our systems and our partners at any cost: if something goes wrong we work together until it is solved, whatever its size. And we are loyal to each other, to the company and to the mission.

Where you are based: ideally you can spend a few days a month in the Limerick office, which is useful for getting to know the team early on. We are set up for remote work and this role suits it, and we do not track hours.

How we interview: an informal video call of up to 30 minutes to start. After that you would meet the management team and the engineering team, by video and in person, and we would talk through EpiSensor's history, products and culture, and your background and what you want next.

What you will do

  • Design microcontroller-based circuit boards, schematics and layouts, for high reliability in harsh industrial environments.
  • Design the next generation of demand response and energy management products.
  • Modify existing designs to improve cost and manufacturability.
  • Write firmware for microcontroller-based electronics in C.
  • Take part in design and review with the other engineers.
  • Work with engineers and service staff to debug and resolve issues.
  • Follow standards and industry practice for system performance and safety.
  • Test and debug systems with JTAG and serial wire debug.
  • Write technical specifications for electronic products.
  • Bring new products through certification and safety testing in several countries.

What we are looking for

  • Five years or more of industry experience, ideally delivering a product to real customers.
  • Experience with hardware and software debugging equipment.
  • Embedded firmware development in C.
  • Able to deliver both small independent projects and larger team projects.
  • A degree in electronic engineering.
  • Ambition, and a willingness to learn and be flexible.
  • Able to work as part of a team and to add to a positive culture.
