Our CSO, Cristina Coffey, was honoured to participate in a roundtable at the Embassy of India, Dublin, on 5th October – an important event dedicated to driving collaboration and innovation between India and Ireland on progressing the transition to sustainable energy.
Hosted by the Embassy of India, Ireland, the purpose of the event was to bring together the most innovative leaders in the Indian Energy Market, with green-tech firms in Ireland, with a view to fostering collaborations that will help India advance even further on their progressive route to a sustainable future in energy production and consumption.
At the table from Ireland were EnergyElephant, Nines PV, Atlantic Wires and ESB (together with EpiSensor), all of whom shared unique perspectives and contributions to one common goal, accelerating the energy transition.
On the day, we heard from His Excellency, Akhilesh Mishra, who shared with us the remarkable progress made by India to date, including the current installed capacity of 172 GW in renewable energy and an ambitious target of reaching 440 GW by 2030. Currently, India stands as the fourth-largest nation globally in installed capacity, showcasing its commitment to a sustainable future. Also shared on the day was a notable initiative to replace 367 million traditional bulbs in India with energy-efficient LEDs, leading to a 90% cost reduction and saving 40 MW of energy – a substantial saving driven by their innovation and forward thinking.
Furthermore, his Excellency shared with us India’s substantial progress in Solar PV production, reducing the cost of solar energy by an impressive 62%. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), India installed 18 GW of solar PV in 2022, almost 40% more than in 2021, which represents substantial growth. In fact, according to the IEA, India’s outlook on the energy transition is: “not just transformational for India, but for the entire planet.”
On the day, industry leaders exchanged ideas, shared knowledge, fostered partnerships, and explored solutions to a greener future for India, and we feel privileged to have participated in this groundbreaking discussion.
Many thanks to The Embassy of India, Ireland, and the representatives from the energy industry in India, for their warm welcome and innovative perspectives, to TechIreland for facilitating, and to our fellow participants, for their valuable insights.
We look forward to diving into future collaborations ignited by this event!
